Keep these items at home for your health and wellness

It is essential that you equip your home with the necessary equipment to ensure your health. It’s not just about buying healthy food for your cabinets, but also other useful items such as basic medicines. Many people stock their bathroom cabinet or bedside table with these products, but are you properly stocked at home with health and wellbeing items? These are some items that will help you maintain your health and well-being at home.

First Aid Kit

Most people have band-aids or the occasional bandage in their homes. A full first-aid kit is not as common as one might think. A fully-stocked first aid kit will allow you to treat minor injuries such as cuts and burns, when a simple bandage or running your hands under cold water won’t do. A first aid kit that is well-stocked should include scissors, gauze dressings of various sizes, band-aids and tweezers. It also includes antiseptic creams and alcohol-free cleaning wipes. First aid supplies can be purchased online or from your local pharmacy.

Sick Day Necessities

You may find that any member of your family becomes sick. It’s important to have some supplies on hand to make your family members more comfortable if they are not advised to go to the hospital immediately and can stay home. This will prevent them from spreading diseases to the rest of the family.

Here are a few of them:

  • Over-the-Counter Medication. These are usually kept in most households. Ibuprofen, paracetamol and other pain relief medications are useful to keep on hand for general aches. Codeine tablets, which are stronger pain relievers, can be purchased without a prescription. However, they should be used with caution as these products can be addictive. Other common medicines that you can keep at home include cold and flu tablets, cough syrup, and antihistamines for allergy sufferers.
  • Sports drinks, broths, teas, and popsicles. These liquids will help sick family members to stay hydrated. If you or a family member is suffering from a fever or diarrhea or are constantly vomiting, dehydration can lead to complications.
  • Tissues. It’s important that if a person is coughing or sneezing, they cover their mouth with disposable tissue to stop the spread of drops around the house. Protective barrier films can be used to keep surfaces clean and prevent the spread germs.

Disinfectants

It doesn’t matter if a pandemic is imminent or not. Having disinfectants at hand is important. Hand sanitizer is a good addition to soap and water for hand washing. Hand sanitizers containing at least 60 percent alcohol are ideal.

You can disinfect your house with undiluted bleach or alcohol. Make your own all-purpose cleaning solution by mixing water and vinegar at a ratio of 1:1. This solution can be used to clean mirrors, tiled floors, and bathtubs.

Vitamins

Over the years, there has been debate about whether vitamin supplements are worthwhile. You should not depend on vitamin supplements to provide your body with all the vitamins it needs. There are many benefits of taking them when needed to find balance. To ensure your body is receiving the right vitamins and minerals, you should eat a healthy diet that’s balanced. Vitamin supplements can be useful for giving your body a boost when it is needed.

Hot & Cold Presses

Reduce your body temperature when you have a fever, or swelling from an injury. A cold press could be very useful. These types of presses can be used to treat muscle injuries following a workout or sport activity. Also, heat pads can be used to relieve menstrual cramps and backaches. The same applies to hot water bottles.

Fitness Equipment

Even if you have a gym or run every day, some basic fitness equipment can help you maintain your health. You can easily store dumbbells, yoga mats or exercise balls at home and use them at any time. You could purchase larger equipment, such as a treadmill or exercise bike. This will all depend on the size and budget of your house.

Consider adding the items you don’t have at home to your collection.
